Definition of the term "MTA"

MTA or mail transfer agent is a software that helps in transfering electronic messages or emails from one computer to another by using SMTP. MTA’s are also responsible for email security and can play a big role in securing the reputation of the sender, which impacts email deliverability. Some other terms for MTA’s include Mail Server, Mail Exchanger, and MX Host. When messages are exchanged between networks, they are passed between mail servers. All attached files such as images, multimedia, or documents are also passed. When a message transfer agent receives email from another MTA, it is transmitted by Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. MTA’s play a vital role in the email system and can help to ensure that messages are delivered safely and securely.
